The impact of winter has become unpredictable in Bangladesh due to climate change. People living in the western coastal region and North Bengal face year-round suffering, as the coastal areas experience extreme weather events such as cyclones, excessive rainfall, and floods each year, while North Bengal faces sudden floods, riverine flooding, riverbank erosion, droughts, and more. These events severely damage the livelihoods, health, mental well-being, and economic conditions of the people in these regions, compounded by intense fog, cold, and cold spells.

According to data from the Bangladesh Meteorological Department, temperatures have already begun to drop in the northern districts (in December). On December 4 and 5, 2025, the lowest temperature recorded was 10.5 degrees Celsius in Tetulia, Panchagarh, the northernmost district of Bangladesh.

The current winter in Bangladesh may be colder than last year's, as six cold waves originating from the Himalayas are expected to sweep across the country. Among these, two to three may be severe cold waves, potentially causing temperatures to drop to 5 degrees Celsius in the northern and western districts, including Panchagarh, Rangpur, Dinajpur, Kurigram, Satkhira, Kushtia, Meherpur, and Jashore in January.

In light of this situation, Action for Balance on Climate and Dignity - ABCD will raise funds and collect winter clothing throughout December and January to help alleviate the suffering of people in North Bengal and coastal areas from the upcoming severe cold. These winter clothes and blankets will be distributed among the people in these regions.

If anyone wishes to provide winter clothing assistance, they can do so by visiting the ABCD office directly or by sending items via courier.

জলবায়ু পরিবর্তনের ফলে বাংলাদেশে শীতের প্রকোপ অনির্দেশ্য হয়ে পড়েছে। পশ্চিম উপকূল অঞ্চল এবং উত্তরবঙ্গে বসবাসরত মানুষদের সারা বছর ভোগান্তির শেষ নেই। কারণ, উপকূলে প্রতিবছর চরম আবহাওয়া ঘটনা যেমন- ঘূর্ণিঝড়, অতিবৃষ্টি, বন্যা ইত্যাদি এবং উত্তরবঙ্গে আকস্মিক বন্যা, নদীতীরবর্তী বন্যা, নদীর তীর ভাঙন, খরা ইত্যাদি হয়। যা এই অঞ্চলের মানুষদের জীবন-জীবিকা, স্বাস্থ্য, মানসিক স্বাস্থ্য, অর্থনৈতিক ইত্যাদি অনেকভাবে ক্ষতি করে এর সাখে যুক্ত হয় তীব্র কুয়াশা, ঠাণ্ডা এবং শৈত্য প্রবাহ।
বাংলাদেশ আবহাওয়া অধিদপ্তর থেকে প্রাপ্ত তথ্য অনুযায়ী, উত্তরাঞ্চলীয় জেলাগুলিতে ইতিমধ্যে (ডিসেম্বর মাসে) পারদ নামতে শুরু করেছে, ডিসেম্বর ৪ এবং ৫, ২০২৫- বাংলাদেশের সর্ব উত্তরের অঞ্চল পঞ্চগড় জেলার তেঁতুলিয়ায় সর্বনিম্ন তাপমাত্রা ১০.৫ ডিগ্রি সেলসিয়াস রেকর্ড করা হয়েছে।
বাংলাদেশে চলতি শীতকাল গত বছরের তুলনায় ঠান্ডা হতে পারে কারণ হিমালয় থেকে আগত ছয়টি শৈত্যপ্রবাহ দেশটির উপর দিয়ে বয়ে যাবে। এর মধ্যে দুই থেকে তিনটি তীব্র শৈত্যপ্রবাহ হতে পারে, যার ফলে জানুয়ারিতে দেশের উত্তর ও পশ্চিমাঞ্চলীয় জেলা পঞ্চগড়, রংপুর, দিনাজপুর, কুড়িগ্রাম, সাতক্ষীরা, কুষ্টিয়া, মেহেরপুর এবং যশোরে তাপমাত্রা ৫ ডিগ্রি সেলসিয়াসে নেমে আসতে পারে।
এই অবস্থার প্রেক্ষিতে, উত্তরবঙ্গ এবং উপকূল অঞ্চলের মানুষদের আসন্ন তীব্র শীতের কষ্ট লাঘব করতে অ্যাকশন ফর ব্যালেন্স অন ক্লাইমেট অ্যান্ড ডিগনিটি - এবিসিডি ডিসেম্বর এবং জানুয়ারী মাসজুড়ে তহবিল এবং শীতবস্ত্র সংগ্রহ করবে যা দিয়ে উত্তরবঙ্গ এবং উপকূল অঞ্চলের মানুষদের মাঝে শীতবস্ত্র এবং কম্বল বিতরণ করা হবে।

কেউ চাইলে শীতবস্ত্র দিয়ে সহায়তা করতে পারবেন সরাসরি এবিসিডি এর অফিসে এসে বা কুরিয়ার করে।
