Description
On 25th June, ABCD had the privilege of participating in the national roundtable discussion titled “Climate Resilience, Water Security and Sustainable Development in Bangladesh: Policy Priorities, Climate Finance and Future Roadmap.”
As we look toward the critical 2026-2027 budget decisions, our message was clear and urgent. We must increase budget allocation for health services for women and girls.
During the discussion, we placed our demands before the Honorable State Minister Mr. Forhad Hossain Azad MP (Ministry of Water Resources), alongside distinguished representatives from UNDP, ESDO, MJF, academicians, lawyers, youth leaders from Youcan, and delegates from the Pakistan and Russian embassies.
We advocated for:
1. Dedicated health budgets addressing reproductive health and dignity before calamities strike and post-care for vulnerable people but especially for women and girls.
2. Mental health support for communities facing displacement and scarcity.
Why?
Our country is on the frontlines of climate change. While some districts face devastating floods, others are turning into deserts. Salinity is destroying our water sources, crops, and in both coastal and barind areas, freshwater has become scarce for human consumption. When disasters strike, women and girls are often the most affected—facing health risks and losing access to basic reproductive care, threat of gender based violence, deteriorating mental health with exposure to loss, trauma and PTSD almost every year.
We believe that through collaboration—between government agencies, private sectors, entrepreneurs, NGOs, students, and local communities—we can implement planned interventions (before next disaster) with robust monitoring that can build data-driven-evidence to measure effectiveness and most successful intervention could be scaled up to ensure long-term dignity for climate affected people. We are open to partnerships & dialogue.
